The Environment

We are committed to building 100% of our homes only on Brownfield sites and in sustainable locations.

Environmental sensitivity is at the heart of Bonham Homes approach to creating new homes for the future.

We are always looking to improve efficiency in the way we build, not only to reduce our own carbon footprint, but to reduce future CO2 emissions in our homes and lower fuel bills for our customers.

One important way in which we reduce the carbon footprints of our developments is to design and provide accessible environments which encourage residents to reduce their car use and use public transport or to consider alternative ways to travel.

In the construction of every home, we use the most up to date Building Regulation and NHBC standards as absolute minimum guidelines and follow their strict energy saving criteria.

Reducing heat requirements and lowering heat loss is a fundamental factor when calculating energy efficiency in a home, so it is important to us that we regularly check this and ensure that floors, walls and roof spaces are well insulated and windows are double glazed. We enhance solar gain by using low emissive glass and carry out pressure tests to check that air escape in every home is minimised.

To help use less electricity and reduce running costs, we install energy efficient boilers, energy saving electrical appliances and install low energy lighting in suitable areas as standard. On a number of developments, we are installing solar panels to assist in heating hot water and we will soon be using this method on every one.

By the use of dual flush cisterns, rainwater collection systems and sustainable underground drainage as standard, we assist in water conservation which adds a valuable contribution to the future of our environment.

Wherever possible, we purchase our building materials from sustainable local sources and actively promote recycling by using recycled products and by reducing our own site waste.

The landscaping of our developments is carefully designed in a manner that enhances the ecology of the neighbourhood and provides long term environmental benefits. Trees and important natural features are retained to minimise disturbance to natural local wildlife and add interest to the overall development design.

We can all help in lowering the impact that we have on the environment and, as a conscientious and responsible Company, we try hard to reduce our impact as much as possible and will continue to improve to meet the Governments carbon zero target.
